How To Go Beyond Your Dating Comfort Zone

Whenever we go online to meet people, we usually search for the kinds of people that fit our preferences. When we are on dating apps or dating sites, we make use of the search function to filter the dating profiles we see. This is what we call our dating comfort zone. We’ve established a set of characteristics we want our future partner to have and we stick to them.

Go Out Of Your Dating Comfort Zone

It’s not exactly bad to be in your dating comfort zone, but experts suggest that the best way to find your match is to go out of it. Meet people who you would never usually go for. For example, if you’ve always gone for the bad boy or bad girl type, try going for the boy or girl next door this time.

Making this transition may not be easy for some so, to remedy this, we have some tips for you to consider:

1. Be Aware Of Your Type’s Flaws

You’re likely reading this now because you haven’t had much luck with dating within your comfort zone. It’s obvious that something may not be working for you. Keep in mind that it might be because the type of person you would want to meet has some flaws to him or her. For example, you want to meet someone who is cultured. That’s not a bad thing but there are cultured people who may act elitist.

2. Embrace The Weirdness

Stepping out of your comfort zone will make you cringe and will probably make you feel uncomfortable. That’s the whole point, though. As early as now, you’re going to have to embrace the feeling of meeting new kinds of people. It may be weird, but maybe weird is good for you.

3. Focus On What You’ve Been Missing

As you look back to your dating history, what do you think is the missing ingredient? What do you think you need to look for in a person that you haven’t before? Keep your answers in mind as you go beyond your dating comfort zone.

Of course, you can stay within your comfort zone, but if that hasn’t been working for you for a long time, something has to change. For more tips on how to improve your dating life, read more posts on our blog.

The Dating Term You Don’t Want To Use On Social Media

We use different dating terms on social media under different circumstances. Doing so seems harmless enough. However, when we are talking to or posting about the person we are dating we, commonly, use a very specific dating term that could indicate that something is wrong in our relationship.

Stop Using The Dating Term “This One”

How many times have you referred to the person you’re dating as “this one” on social media? For example, you post a candid shot of you and your date with the caption: “Having dinner with this one.”

There seems to be nothing dangerous about using the term as it refers to a boyfriend, girlfriend or lover. It’s basically a term of endearment. However, James Preece, a celebrity dating coach, thinks otherwise.

Why “This One” Spells Trouble

The dating term “this one” could mean many things depending on how long the couple has been in a relationship. Refer to the circumstances below:

  • Early stages of the relationship – it’s alright to use this term when your relationship is young. It’s possible that the couple has not defined the union yet and are, therefore, taking things slow.
  • Middle and late stages of the relationship – this is where the term might indicate trouble. When a couple has been together for some time, the person using the term “this one” may be trying to distance himself or herself from the partner.

What To Do About It

When you are in the early stages of your relationship, it’s totally fine to approach things with a lighter mood to keep things moving at a slower pace. You don’t have to label your relationship if you are not ready. But, at some point, you have to if the person is really that important.

On that note, when you have reached this point in your relationship, don’t be afraid to call your partner or refer to your partner as the love of your life, your lover, your boyfriend/girlfriend, or whatever term of endearment you prefer. Don’t be afraid to call your partner by his or her first name too.

If you feel like you are still not ready, it could be a sign of your commitment issues. In this case, you have to seek professional help to get to the root of the issue, solve it, and then move forward with your dating. For more tips about relationships, read more from our blog.
