Here’s How To Come To Terms With The Fear Of Missing Out

We all want to be “in” or we all want to belong. We want to be invited to our friends’ parties or whatever get-togethers they might have. It seems that not getting invited to any of these is a sin for most of us. If you are not included, you feel bad and have to deal with the fear of missing out.

Dealing With The Fear Of Missing Out Or F.O.M.O

While feelings of disappointment are natural, we have the power to control our reactions. We can get over the rejection in as short as a few minutes, depending on how we deal with the situation. We may face non-inclusion from time to time but the following are things that can help us cope with the fear of missing out:

Acknowledge And Accept The Hurt

Yes, you are not a robot, so you are allowed to feel hurt and disappointed. Accept it. Denying the presence of the hurt will just mask it but the bitterness will pile up inside of you and eat you up from the inside. Eventually, you will realize that you have accumulated so much pain and bitterness that you are like a ticking time bomb, ready to explode anytime.

Rejection May Not Be Real

Let’s face it. All of us have many circles of friends. Friends from work, hobbyist buddies, or co-members of a congregation. We all maintain different groups. Some intersect, others are just too foreign. One of your friends may just opt to invite one of the groups that he or she is part of. Or, because of too many connections, your name was forgotten, but unintentionally. Change your perspective to deal with your FOMO.

Do Something With Other Friends

most of the time, we experience the fear of missing out because we are bored or we are not productive. Another way to get over the pain caused by non-inclusion would be to go out with other friends or do something that’s fulfilling. For example, you can call up a friend that you haven’t seen in a while. On the other hand, you could organize your desk so you’re doing something useful.

The fear of missing out needs to be dealt with as soon as possible because it breeds insecurity. In terms of dating, FOMO can also happen, especially if you see couples everywhere. Follow the tips above to get over your fear, and let us know how it worked out for you. For other tips, make sure you explore the rest of our blog.
